Tip: Make sure you don’t press too hard on the paper when you draw your pencil lines so that you can correct your mistakes with an eraser as you go through the tutorial.
Start by drawing a medium oval shape using a light pencil stroke.
Draw a small oval for the bat head.
Draw two small triangles shapes for the bat’s ears at the top of the head.
Using two curved lines, outline the bat’s body and the head.
A. Draw a curved line on the left side using a darker pencil stroke.
B. Draw a curved line on the right side using a darker pencil stroke. Then connect both lines on each side.
Erase any unwanted pencil marks.
Draw a small curved line to form a face shape.
A. Draw two circles inside the head to form the eyes.
B. Shade the eyes in using a darker pencil stroke.
Draw two tiny oval shapes for the nose just below the eyes. Then add two small lines between the eyes and the nose.
Draw a curved line below the nose to form the mouth.
A. Draw four small curved lines to form the legs.
B. Add small lines between those lines to form the toes.
A. Draw a curved line on the left side of the bat’s body to form the bat’s left-wing. Then add a zig-zag line just below it. Finally, connect both lines with one vertical line to complete the silhouette of the bat’s wings.
B. Repeat the process on the opposite side.
Draw a series of curved lines across each wing to imitate the intricate veins that are found in real bat wings.
Draw short lines across the bat’s body. Then add zig-zag shape lines inside the body to create a furry look.
Outline each wing’s edges using a darker pencil stroke.
Using your fingers smudge the pencil marks to create a shading effect.
Draw several tiny lines inside each wing to make it look more realistic.
Draw a few horizontal lines to create the background.
