Tip: Make sure you don’t press too hard on the paper when you draw your pencil lines so that you can correct your mistakes with an eraser as you go through the tutorial.
Start by drawing a medium oval shape to form the head. Use a light pencil stroke.
Draw another medium oval to form the body.
In the previous step, we created the body. Now is the time to draw a tail.
Draw a small oval shape to form the tail and connect it with the medium oval’s end.
A. Draw a curved line on the right side to connect all parts you drew in Steps 1,2 and 3. Use a darker pencil stroke.
B. Repeat the process on the left side.
The lobster’s abdomen consists of four segments. Draw four smooth lines across the body and tail of the lobster to help define its shape.
Draw a curved wavy line at the end of the tail. Then draw two curved lines in the middle to finish the tail.
A. Draw two straight lines at the front of the head on the right side.
B. Repeat the process on the left side.
C. Draw two large oval shapes on top of the lines you just drew that look like diamonds.
D. Create two small segments.
E. Add a smooth line in the middle of each diamond to create the claws.
A. Draw four curved lines on each side of the abdomen for the middle legs. Then add another four straight line segments extending down from the abdomen and forming the back legs.
B. Draw small triangle shapes at the end of each line segment to indicate the joints where the legs meet. Then, erase any unwanted pencil marks.
A. Draw an “M” shape at the top of the head to form the face.
B. Draw two small circles inside the head for the eyes and shade them using a darker pencil stroke.
Draw two long curved lines coming out of the head to form the antennas. Use a light pencil stroke.
The final step is to use your pencil to add shading and bring your lobster drawing to life. Using a criss-cross hatching technique smudge the pencil marks with your fingers. Then add several lines to finish the look.
