Tip: Make sure you don’t press too hard on the paper when you draw your pencil lines so that you can correct your mistakes with an eraser as you go through the tutorial.

Step 1: Draw the Body and the Head

A. The first step is to draw a round shape that will form the main body of your rat.

B. Draw a much smaller round shape for the head which is next to the right side of the body.

C. Draw two curved lines around the round shapes to connect the head to the body.

Step 4: Draw the Face

Draw two lines to create the head. You should end up with a nose shape at the front.

Line 1: draw a curved line from the bottom of the head shape

Line 2: draw a straighter line from the top of the head shape and connect it to the bottom curved line you just created.

Step 5: Draw the Front Legs and Paws

Left leg: Draw two lines coming from the body for the left leg.

Right leg: draw one vertical curved line coming from the body next to the right line of the left leg.

Left foot: draw some curved lines to create 4 toes on the left leg.

Right foot: Draw four toes connected to the right leg line and the left foot.

Step 6: Draw the Back Leg

Draw a curved line that looks like a backward “C” shape for the back leg.

Step 7: Draw the Back Paw

Draw two horizontal lines coming from the bottom right side of the reverse “C” shape and add 5 toes by drawing curved horizontal lines that join the two horizontal lines you created.

Step 8: Draw the Tail

Draw a long tail using two curved lines connected to the back of the body. Join the end of the lines at a point.

Step 9: Erase Your Pencil Marks

Erase your unwanted marks pencil.

Step 10: Draw the Nose

To create the nose, draw a half-circle shape that looks like a reverse “C” shape.

Step 11: Draw the Mouth

Draw a tiny curved line that connects to the bottom of the nose.

Step 12: Add the Eye

Draw a small circle inside the head. Then shade it with your pencil.

Step 13: Draw the Ears

For the ears, draw two small oval shapes with vertical lines joining into the top of the head at the bottom of the ears.

Step 14: Draw the Whiskers

Draw a few long whiskers on each side of the nose.

Step 15: Add the Fur

Draw rough edges all around the rat’s body to create the fur.

Step 16: Add Shading

A. Shade the body to give it a more natural look. Use a criss-cross pattern at the top left of the body and use your finger to smudge the pencil marks inside of the body area.

B. Add a few lines to the tail and the body to create a more realistic look.

C. Draw several horizontal lines to create a floor.
