Tip: Make sure you don’t press too hard on the paper when you draw your pencil lines so that you can correct your mistakes with an eraser as you go through the tutorial.
The first step is outlining the tomato.
Start by drawing a medium oval shape using light pencil marks so you can erase the pencil marks if you get it wrong.
Once you’re happy with your rough shape from step 1, you can outline the shape with darker pencil marks to make the body of your tomato more visible.
Now you can erase any unwanted pencil marks.
Starting from the center of the tomato draw a star shape with five points but make sure you leave a gap on the top left to connect the stem.
Next, add two short vertical parallel lines connected to the gap on the star shape you created in step 4.
Then add a small circle shape at the top to join them.
Add some shading to the side of the tomato to create darker areas for a more realistic look and some smaller details to the tomato such as small lines and dots.
A. Draw some fine lines on the left side of the main body of your tomato.
B. Draw some more fine lines in the opposite direction.
C. Draw a few small curved lines. Curve the lines in the same direction as the part of the circle they are closest to.
The final step is shading the stem to give it a more 3-dimensional look.
Then draw a few small lines inside of the stem to add texture.
There you have it. Now you know how to draw a tomato!
Don’t worry if your easy drawing of tomato isn’t perfect the first time, the more you practice the better you will get!
