In this fun and easy dinosaur drawing tutorial, you’ll learn how to draw a dinosaur step by step.
This tutorial is great for beginner artists (both kids and adults) who want to improve their drawing skills.
Dinosaurs have captured the imagination of many people for generations and now it’s time to bring your own creation to life.

We’ve included all of the steps in detail so that the process is easier to follow.
So, let’s get started!
The collage above shows each step of the process so you know what your dinosaur drawing should look like at each stage.
Tip: Make sure you don’t press to hard on the paper when you draw your pencil lines so that you can correct your mistakes with an eraser as you go through the tutorial.
These shapes will be a guide in later steps when you add details to your drawing.
A: Draw an oval for the body shape.
B: Draw two lines connected to the oval for the dinosaur neck.
C: Use light pencil marks to draw a small oval for the dinosaur head.
Add two darker curved lines outline your drawing.
Line 1: This line on the top of the dinosaur should cover the body, the neck and the top of the head.
Line 2: The second line should cover the bottom of the body and the neck and stop where the neck joins to the head.
Draw two small legs with feet on the ends, making sure the front feet have three small claws.
A. Draw two long lines connected to the middle of the body for the first back leg. Add a foot and toes.
B. Draw two lines for the second back leg, connecting the left line to the body and the right line to the right leg. Then, sketch the foot and toes.
Draw two lines.
The first line on top of the small oval with a small bump on the top and a curve on the right hand-side of the line.
The second line should be a U shape connected to the bottom part of the small oval. The left side of the U shape should join inside of the small oval and the right-hand side of the U shape should curve around into the small oval.
Draw a small circle for an eye and a tiny line above for an eyebrow.
Draw a tiny oval shape for the nose and shade it in with your pencil.
Draw two small lines for the mouth.
These lines should connect together to form a triangle shape.
Then add sharp teeth inside the mouth by drawing several small triangles.
Draw two long curved lines for the tail at the back of your dinosaur and connect them into a point at the end.
Erase any unwanted pencil marks.
Draw rough edges around your dinosaur to give it a more 3 dimensional and realistic look.
Start with adding lines around its body for the scales.
Then add wavy triangle patterns, circles, semi-circles, and lines to the body as shown in the picture below to add detail to your drawing.
Add shadows to the patterns you created in step 12 and to the body using a cross-hatching technique.
Draw a few horizontal lines on the bottom of your sketch to create the floor.
Finally, add some short lines on the body of your dinosaur to add extra detail.
You have now created a beautiful dinosaur drawing.
