Tip: Make sure you don’t press too hard on the paper when you draw your pencil outlines so that you can correct your mistakes with an eraser as you go through the tutorial.
This will also make it a lot easier to erase pencil lines when you finish your artwork.
Draw a small circle just above the center of your paper.
Use a compass or a mug if needed.
Next, draw a slightly larger circle around the first one. This will be the main body or disk of your sunflower.
To create one of the petals, start by drawing two curved lines that start at the outer edge of the main disk and come down to meet the inner circle (make sure that one line curves to the left and one line should curves to the right to form an oval shape).
Then repeat this process to create 7 other petals.
Connect each end of the petals with curved lines to complete the oval shapes.
Repeat this process until you have drawn 16 petals.
Now that you have drawn the first layer of petals, add small curved lines between each of the 16 petals to create another layer of petals.
Draw as many curved lines as you want.
Draw lots of tiny circles inside the center of your sunflower to create the seeds.
Add a stem coming off the bottom of the main disk by drawing two slightly curved lines that join to one of the smaller petals.
Now we will learn how to draw a sunflower leaf. Draw a leaf shape attached to the stem.
Add the small lines inside the petals to create your petal’s details.
Now you can erase the original circle you drew in step 2.
There you have it. Now you know how to draw a sunflower!
Don’t worry if your simple sunflower drawing isn’t perfect the first time, the more you practice the better you will get!
Be sure to practice this sunflower how to draw tutorial step by step until you get it just right.
